Self-Care is Non-Negotiable

Dealing with addiction recovery and being a mom 24/7 can be pretty difficult. Not only are you fighting an internal battle every day, you also have to take care of a little human being at the same time. With so much going on, it’s not easy to prioritize self-care. But it’s exactly what you should do for both yourself and your baby. 

If you don’t take care of yourself, your children will suffer. Especially if you’re already recovering from addiction. So take out time to look after yourself. Enroll yourself in drug rehab programs to deal with your addictions properly and prevent relapse. When at home, give yourself a break. Enjoy family time with your kids, take a shower, and relax. Remember, we’re all humans at the end of the day, so don’t be too hard on yourself.

Let Go of Resentment 

Anger and resentment that come from drug addiction can trap you into a victim mentality if you don’t let go of it. This not only hinders your progress but makes you bitter and depressed.  By letting go of these negative feelings and allowing yourself a fresh start, you not only make life easier for yourself but also your kids and family.

A little support from your family and friends can go a long way.

Communicate With Your Kids

Your kids, depending on their age and maturity level, are likely to be aware of what’s going on in the house. So rather than brushing the matter under the rug, discuss it with them. Let them know that drug addiction is a disease and not a moral failing. Tell them that you love them and that you’re doing whatever you can to get better. Moreover, try to provide them with a safe environment for communication and understanding.
